State Department Announces Consular Visa Fee Increase

The Department of State published a Final Rule increasing nonimmigrant visa application processing fees. The agency proposed a fee increase in December 2021, but the final rule fees are much lower than the original proposal. The updated fees will go into effect on May 30, 2023:

  • Nonimmigrant visas for H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories will increase to $205 from $190. This is $105 less than the original proposal of $310.
  • The E visa application will increase from $205 to $315. This is $170 less than the original proposal.
  • The fee for non-petition-based nonimmigrant visas will be $180 from $165. This is 24.5% below the original proposal.
  • The fee for the exchange visitor waiver will stay at $120 and not be raised to the proposed $510.

The fees are based on the cost of providing nonimmigrant visa services and are set and collected so the U.S. government can recover the full cost of the service. The rule will not change other Consular fees.
