Spain Extends Travel Restrictions, and Issues New Requirements for Vaccination Certificates

The Government of Spain has extended the non-essential entry restrictions imposed against the majority of third countries. The conditions will remain in place until the end of January 2022.

What to Expect
  • Non-essential travel is not permitted without a valid vaccination certificate.
  • Travelers who can present a vaccination certificate can enter Spain without an essential reason for their trip.
  • The non-essential travel ban also applies to all travelers from the UK.

Safe third countries include Argentina, Australia, Bahrein, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Kuwait, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, China (including Hong Kong, and Macao).

The flight restrictions from southern Africa will conclude on December 29, 2021. Travelers from high-risk countries will be required to present a vaccination or recovery certificate and a COVID-19 test certificate.

High-risk countries include Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This list is valid until January 5, 2022, and will be revised every seven days.

As of February 1, 2022, vaccination certificates will be accepted as valid from 14 days after the last dose of the complete vaccination schedule (primary vaccination) and no more than 270 days after the last dose of the regimen.
