On October 22, 2026, the Ministry of Justice announced modifications to the points-based E-7-4 skilled worker visa system.
The E-7-4 visa allows qualifying foreign nationals who have been working in South Korea on E-9, E-10, and H-2 visas for at least four years to extend their stay for another two years at a time (renewable) and to invite their spouse and children to join them.
Applicants must have been employed in South Korea for at least four of the last ten years, with at least one year with the current employer and a minimum salary of KRW 26,000,000. Then, they must score at least 200 out of a potential 300 points, which can be earned through criteria such as average income, Korean language ability, and age.
The Ministry said that it will reduce the number of documents required in support of the application from more than twelve to fewer than seven. Moreover, the Ministry will award additional points to applicants who have worked for a long time for the same employer.
The length of stay required for later switching from E-7-4 to F-2 (residence) will also be eased, and the Ministry will establish a clear pathway from E-9/E-10 to E-7-4, then to F-2, and finally to F-5 (permanent residence) status.
