Singapore’s Changi Airport will intoduce automated immigration clearance, relying on biometric data instead of passports starting in 2024. The change was announced in a session of parliament on Monday, September 18, 2023.
The Changi Airport already uses biometric technology, including facial recognition software, at automated lanes at immigration checkpoints. Still, the changes will provide passengers with a more seamless experience and eliminate the need for physical travel documents. However, passports will still be required for travelers going to countries that do not offer passport-free clearance.
