The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has rolled out a major upgrade to its passport tracking system as of January 2026, aiming to increase transparency and reduce delays in passport collection for applicants nationwide.
A key improvement is the introduction of a new status label — “Produced (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection)” — which clearly notifies applicants when their passport has been fully processed and is available for pickup or courier dispatch. The system also differentiates between passports that are ready but awaiting collection and those that are ready but pending courier delivery, offering greater clarity throughout the issuance workflow.
Applicants can now track their application progress directly through the NIS online portal, minimizing unnecessary visits to passport offices and helping to streamline overall processing. The enhanced tracking platform is part of NIS’s broader effort to modernize services and improve the user experience for Nigerians applying for or renewing their passports.
