From November 7, 2023, Mainland China will join the Apostille Convention or Hague Convention, ensuring official documents originating in Mainland China are acceptable for use in other Hague member countries.
To be Determined
It is currently unknown if Mainland China’s participation in the Apostille Convention will result in a reciprocated relationship so that documents originating in other member countries would be accepted in Mainland China.
Erickson Insights
Mainland China’s participation in the Apostille Convention should streamline immigration document processing for foreign nationals and their employers, reducing processing times and avoiding additional steps to certify or legalize documents at a consulate. However, as the new system is implemented and optimized, applicants should anticipate some delays.
