Japan to Screen for Tuberculosis for Certain Travelers

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare will require Tuberculosis Screening certificates as a mandatory document for the COE application. At this time, nations suject to this measure at the Philippines, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and China.

What to Expect
  • Visa types subject to this measure:
    • Mid to long-term visas (Excluding SSW, government-funded exchange programs, nurse/social worker/helper under EPA and government programs, etc.)
    • Digital Nomad visa
  • Required tests: Chest X-ray test at a medical institution in the above countries designated by the Japanese government.
  • Submission of test certificate:
    • In COE application and visa application at the local consulate (depending on the timing of the COE application)
    • Validity of test certificate is 180 days from date of testing
