Japan Extends State of Emergency

Friday, May 14, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced that Japan’s state of emergency was being extended and broadened to include more regions in response to quickly rising coronavirus cases. The state of emergency was scheduled to end on May 11 and is now scheduled to end on May 31, 2021.

The entry ban for foreign nationals and the visa issuance suspension will continue indefinitely.

In the announcement, Suga maintained that the rescheduled Summer Olympic Games were still possible with strict preventative measures. The Olympics are set to start on July 23, 2021.
