Japan Eases Visa Requirement for Certain UAE Nationals

The government of Japan has introduced a visa waiver measure extending the valid period of stay from 30 days to 90 days for ordinary passport holders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The visa waiver measure for visits not exceeding 30 days has been in operation since 2022 for ordinary passport holders of the UAE. The change takes effect from July 1, 2025.

Requirements
  • To be eligible for the visa waiver, nationals of the UAE must have valid ordinary passports of the UAE which are ICAO compliant IC Passports
  • Eligible visa waiver visits include short-term stay (for sightseeing, business, or visit to relatives/friends, etc., not to exceed 90 days

The UAE has also introduced a Visa Waiver Measure for Japanese nationals in possession of valid Japanese passports for a short-term stay of a period not exceeding 90 days from August 1, 2024. It is expected that the exchange between Japan and the UAE will further expand in the future by this visa waiver measure which would bring an increase in the number of tourists from the UAE to Japan and improvement of convenience in conducting business activities.
