Japan Eases Requirements for “Entertainer” Working Visas

The government of Japan has eased the requirements for individuals seeking an “entertainer” working visa, from August 1, 2023.

Main Changes
  • International artists will be permitted to stay in Japan for up to 30 days.
  • Venue eligibility will now inlcude those that sell food and beverage and standing room for patrons.
  • Additionally, for artists who cannot meet the new standards, the criteria will be overridden if the performance or event organizers have at least three years of experience hosting international performers and are financially in good standing.

According to the announcement, the Immigration Services Agency hopes the eased criteria will attract up-and-coming talent and foster more cultural exchanges in Japan.
