IRCC Enacts Changes to the Express Entry Scoring System

Further to IRCC’s News Release Dec 23, 2024, the Government of Canada has enacted changes to the Ministerial Instructions governing the Express Entry scoring system, effective March 25, 2025.

Specifically, all CRS points formerly awarded for a “qualifying offer of arranged employment” (50 or 200 depending on NOC) have been removed. This was framed in December as a temporary measure, but no end date has been discussed.

Impact
  • Express Entry candidates who are in the pool and have not received an Invitation to Apply, will have their CRS score recalculated over the coming days. Any points for a qualifying job offer will be removed and their new score recalculated. IRCC has advised it may take a few days for scores to be updated, although the change goes into effect on March 25, 2025.
  • Express Entry candidates who have received an ITA or whose applications for permanent residence are still in process are not impacted by the change.
