EIG Alert: DOS Issues Middle East Travel Advisory

Following the initiation of US military operations in Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, the US Department of State has issued travel guidance for the region and for Americans worldwide.

  • Regional Advisory: Americans traveling internationally, but especially in and through the Middle East, should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest US embassy or consulate. They may experience travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures and other ongoing activities.
  • Worldwide Advisory: The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.
  • Advice for All International Travel: The State Department recommends that all US citizens and nationals traveling abroad enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). Enrolling in STEP enables the Department of State to quickly and accurately contact travelers in the event of an emergency.
    • Get updates about health, weather, safety, and security for the destination.
    • Plan using information from the local US embassy.
    • Help the embassy or consulate contact you if there’s an emergency like a natural disaster, civil unrest, or a family emergency.
