In a major step toward modernizing its border control systems, India will replace its paper-based disembarkation form with a fully digital e-Arrival Card, effective October 1, 2025. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), aims to streamline immigration procedures, reduce airport congestion, and improve the arrival experience for foreign nationals.
What Is the e-Arrival Card?
The e-Arrival Card is a digital form that foreign travelers must complete online within five days prior to arrival in India. It replaces the traditional disembarkation card previously filled out upon landing.
This move aligns India with global best practices already adopted by countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia, where digital immigration forms have significantly reduced wait times and paperwork.
What Information Is Required?
Travelers will need to provide:
- Full name and nationality
- Passport number and date of arrival
- Purpose of visit (e.g., tourism, business, study, medical, AYUSH, employment, research, conference)
- Countries visited in the past six days
- Address in India
- Email and contact number
- Emergency contact details
Once submitted, travelers will receive a preview of the e-Arrival Card, which may be presented at immigration if requested.
How to Apply
Foreign nationals must complete the e-Arrival Card via India’s newly launched online portal. A beta version is currently available for preview, with full functionality going live on October 1.
