India Extends OCI Cardholder Validity through 2022

The Government of India has extended the validity of OCI cards by one year to December 31, 2022. The extension is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

What to Expect
  • OCI cardholders must get the OCI card re-issued only when a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age.
  • OCI cardholders must upload a copy of the new passport and a recent photo each time a new passport is issued up to 20 years of age and once after 50 years of age.
  • A foreign spouse of an Indian Citizen or spouse of foreign origin of an OCI cardholder must upload a copy of the new passport and a recent photo each time a new passport is issued, along with supporting documents.
  • An OCI cardholder traveling with an OCI card that shows the old passport number is not required to carry the old passport. However, they must carry a new (current) passport.
