On April 16 ,2026, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced that he will resign at the end of May to spend more time with his family. Director Lyons’s resignation has raised questions about the direction of the agency, as polling finds that immigration enforcement is unpopular with the American public, and most believe that ICE has “gone too far” under the Trump administration.
