France President Emmanuel Macron Announced a Phased Easing from Lockdown

President Emmanuel Macron announced the start of France’s lockdown easing in three-parts:

  • Phase One, From November 28: Lockdown remains in place, but people will be able to go outside for three hours a day and within a 20 km radius of their homes. (Current conditions are 1 hour and 1 km.) Shops selling non-essential items and indoor religious centers will be allowed to reopen.

  • Phase Two, From December 15: Lockdown is lifted with a curfew in place from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Cinemas and theaters may reopen.

  • Phase Three, From January 20: Bars, restaurants, cafes, gyms, and universities can reopen.

The transition from each phase will depend on the continued downward trajectory.
