Germany | Right to Residence Begins

From January 1, 2023, new immigration laws come into effect in Germany.

Highlights
  • Right to Residence gives nearly 140,000 foreign nationals living in Germany under a “tolerates status” the opportunity to obtain an 18-month residence permit. Eligibility is based on having lived in Germany for at least five years as of October 31, 2022, without committing a serious criminal offense and other criteria.
  • The Skilled Immigration Act standards become permanently applicable.
  • Skilled workers will be able to bring their family members to Germany without requiring the family to obtain a German language knowledge certificate.
