Germany Removes Countries from High Risk List

The German government has updated the list of “high-risk” countries, with changes to go into effect on Sunday, December 12.

Armenia, Iran, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Romania will be removed from the high-risk list. The current high-risk list is here.

Travel Requirements
  • Travelers who were in a risk area must complete a digital entry registration before arrival.
  • Travelers who were in a high-risk area must present negative test results or vaccination or recovery certificate. Travelers who were in an area of virus variant of concern must present test results. 
  • Travelers who were in a risk area must isolate for 10 days. Travelers were in a virus variant area must quarantine for 14 days.
    • Travelers who were in a high-risk area can test to release from quarantine early five days after entry. Early release from quarantine is generally not possible for travelers from virus variant areas.

There is a ban on passenger transport by train, bus, ship and flight from virus variant countries — Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Travelers who are unvaccinated or who have not previously recovered from COVID-19 can enter Germany only for essential reasons and they must follow testing and quarantine protocols.
