The Government of Germany announced that from January 1, 2022, the minimum annual gross salary requirement for a German EU Blue Card has dropped by 0.7 percent.
To qualify for the regular Blue Card EU, a gross annual salary of at least € 56,400.00 (as of 2022) is required. For the first time, it is less than the previous year.
For the shortage occupation category Blue Card, a gross annual salary of at least € 43,992.00 (as of 2022) is required for employees in the fields of mathematics, IT, natural sciences, engineering, and human medicine.
All other qualifying conditions for the Blue Card remain unchanged.
Germany’s decision to lower the minimum salary requirement comes at a time when the EU is working to make it easier for skilled foreigners to obtain an EU Blue Card.
