FY 2025 EB-2 Visa Cap Reached: Issuance Suspended Until October

As of September 2, 2025, the US Department of State has confirmed that the Employment-Based Second Preference (EB-2) visa category has reached its annual limit for fiscal year (FY) 2025.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), the EB-2 category is allocated 28.6% of the total employment-based immigrant visa quota each fiscal year. With all available EB-2 visas now issued, US embassies and consulates will suspend further EB-2 visa processing until the start of the new fiscal year.

What This Means for Applicants
  • No EB-2 visas will be issued for the remainder of FY 2025.
  • Visa issuance will resume on October 1, 2025, when FY 2026 begins and new visa numbers become available.
  • Applicants with pending EB-2 cases may experience delays and should consult with their legal representatives for updated timelines.
EB-2 Category Overview

The EB-2 visa is designed for:

  • Professionals holding advanced degrees
  • Individuals with exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business
  • National Interest Waiver (NIW) applicants
