European Countries Suspend Golden Visas for Russian Nationals

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, EU nations and others have opened their doors to Ukrainians fleeing their country. Governments have also issued various economic and other sanctions on Russia and Russian nationals. Notably, countries have suspended the Citizenship by Investment scheme, also known as a Golden Visa, which exchanges residency in a specific country for significant investment. Golden Visa holders and their families are permitted to move within Schengen Area without applying for a visa.

To date, the Czech Republic, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, and Spain have suspended the Golden Visa program for Russian citizens. Malta and Portugal have also suspended Golden Visas for Belarusan nationals.

Besides the EU countries, the UK, United States, and Canada have also suspended the issuance of Golden Visas for Russian citizens.
