Egypt’s Government Extends Amnesty Period

A statement issued by the Egyptian Cabinet indicated that the government approved a draft decision by the Prime Minister to extend the period for regularizing the status of foreign residents in the country illegally for an additional year, in accordance with the controls and regulations stipulated in Prime Minister’s Decision No. 3326 of 2023.

The original deadline for foreigners to regularize their status was set to expire on September 30, 2024, but it has now been extended for an additional year.

The Egyptian state and its relevant agencies had previously urged all foreigners residing on its territory to go to the General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality to regularize their status, renew their residency, and obtain a smart residency card to ensure that they can benefit from all government services provided to them. The government also urged its foreign guests who are exempt from paying residency fees to go to the General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality to register their data and obtain an exemption card, in implementation of the Prime Minister’s decision.

Prior to the extension, the government has indicated that it will stop providing services to foreigners exempted from residence permits who have not obtained exemption cards from the General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality, as they were given a final deadline to obtain these cards, which ended on September 30, 2024.
