China | New Immigration Policies Encourage Highly-Skilled Foreign Nationals

On August 1, 2019, The Ministry of Public Security implemented new immigration policies aimed to attract highly-skilled foreign talent and outstanding youth to study and work in China.  These new policies will facilitate the process for foreigners to apply for permanent residency, long-term visas, and residence permits as the eligibility requirements are broader. Among the changes, foreigners working in China for four consecutive years, living in China for no less than six months out of each year, and whose annual income or taxes reach a specified threshold can now apply for permanent residence, as can their spouses and underage children. In addition, foreign students traveling to China for internships may now apply for an employment-based residence permit according to existing regulations.
