On May 5, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it would offer financial and travel assistance to facilitate self-deportation for individuals to return to their country of origin through the CBP Home App.
Key Details
- Any individual who uses the CBP Home App to self-deport will receive travel assistance in the form of a flight to their home country.
- They will also receive a stipend of $1,000 dollars, paid after their return to their home country has been confirmed through the app.
- Qualifying individuals would submit their “Intent to Depart” via the CBP Home app. For further information, visit DHS.gov/CBPhome.
According to DHS, the average cost to arrest, detain, and remove an illegal alien is $17,121.
Through this program, individuals who voluntarily self-deport in the CBP Home app will be deprioritized for detention and removal ahead of their departure as long as they demonstrate they are making meaningful strides in completing that departure. Participation in CBP Home Self-Deportation may help preserve the option for an illegal alien to re-enter the United States legally in the future.
