The Department of State has issued a travel advisory for China encouraging travelers to “exercise increased caution” as a result of arbitrary enforcement of local laws and restrictions on dual US-Chinese nationals. Chinese authorities are using exit bans on US citizens prohibiting them from leaving the country. Dual US-Chinese nationals and US nationals of Chinese heritage may experience increased scrutiny by Chinese authorities. Some individuals have been detained without access to US consular services or information on the alleged crime.
