China to Permit Visa-Free Entry for Irish Nationals

On January 17, 2024, after a meeting between Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the government of China announced that it will apply a unilateral visa-free policy to Ireland.

In November 2023, China allowed citizens from five European nations including France, Germany and Italy to enter the country without a visa. On January 15, 2024, China also announced a unilateral visa-free policy for nationals of Switzerland.
