Canada Raises Financial Requirements for Study Permits

The government has announced that, effective September 1, 2025, the funds required for financial support for study permits will increase.

International students must prove that they have enough money, without working in Canada, to pay for:

  • tuition fees for the course or program of studies;
  • living expenses for themself and any accompanying family members while in Canada; and,
  • transportation to and from Canada for themself and any accompanying family members.

For a single applicant, the required funds will increase from CAD 20,635 to CAD 22,895. The amounts for additional family members will also increase. The current and new required funds amounts are listed here.
