Canada’s IRCC to Review Express Entry PR Scheme

The government of Canada will be undertaking consultations in the Spring of 2026 toward enacting changes to the Express Entry PR scheme in Canada. This will require Regulatory amendments and technological upgrades at IRCC, and so will take time. The official IRCC Announcement is here.

Key proposals include:

  • Merging the existing eligibility programs (FSW, CEC, FST) into a single program, and
  • Significantly changing the Comprehensive Ranking System to recalibrate how points are awarded

Potential changes include:

  • Removing spousal and sibling factors
  • Removing French proficiency points, focusing instead on selecting French speakers though category-specific draws
  • Enhancing the weight of specific Canadian work experience and Certificate of Trade qualifications
