The Government of Canada introduced expanded vaccination requirements to go into effect on January 15 through January 31, with the possibility of an extension.
What to Expect
Entry to Canada is prohibited to foreign nationals after January 15, if:
- They suspect/know they have COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19;
- They have not complied with the pre-arrival testing;
- They are not fully vaccinated; or
- They cannot comply with quarantine requirements, if exempt from vaccination requirement (and still permitted entry)
Individuals applying for a work permit will be required to prove they are fully vaccinated. Exemptions apply to the following:
- agricultural and food processing workers;
- foreign marine crew members;
- those entering on compassionate grounds;
- new permanent residents;
- newly resettled refugees;
- children under the age of 18 who are currently exempt from the travel restrictions;
- national interest exemptions
Canada advises Canadians to avoid non-essential travel outside Canada, regardless of vaccination status.
