The Canadian government announced revisions to its border measures as it begins to shift the pandemic response. Changes will go into effect on February 28, 2022.
Key Highlights
- Travelers to Canada will have the option of providing negative results from a rapid antigen test administered by a lab/healthcare entity within 24 hours of a scheduled flight or arrival at a land border.
- The current PCR results taken within 72 hours of entry will also be accepted.
- Fully vaccinated travelers to Canada that are selected randomly for on-arrival testing will no longer need to quarantine while awaiting results.
- Children under 12 traveling with fully vaccinated parents will no longer have to avoid large groups settings/school for 14 days after entry.
Erickson Insights
The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving, and guidance from government agencies and health advisories change often. We expect that the Orders in Council (set to expire February 28) will be amended to reflect the above but that the current requirement (and very limited exceptions) to needing to be fully vaccinated will be extended.
Erickson Immigration Group will continue to share updates as more news is available. If you have questions about anything we’re reporting above or case-specific questions, please contact your employer or EIG attorney.
