In January 2022, the Government of Brazil introduced a temporary visa and residence permit for ‘digital nomads.’ Immigrants whose professional activity can be carried out remotely and are not employed by a Brazil-based company.
An immigrant who works, with or without an employment relationship, for an employer in Brazil or whose residence permit to carry out work in the country is regulated in another normative resolution issued by the National Immigration Council will not be considered a “digital nomad.”
What to Expect
- This type of visa may be requested directly from the consular authority.
- The following documents must be presented, among others that may be required by the Brazilian authorities: valid travel document or other applicable identification documents; valid health insurance; proof of payment of consular fees; completed visa application form; proof of means of transportation; criminal record certificate issued by the country of origin or an equivalent document; documents proving the status of a digital nomad, and proof of means of subsistence, from a foreign paying source, in a monthly amount equal to or greater than US$ 1,500.00 or availability of bank funds of at least US$ 18,000.00.
The initial period of residence will be up to 1 year and may be extended for a second year, with required documentation.
