Ahead of the end of Title 42, the Biden administration is taking steps toward implementing alternative methods to process migrants at the Southern border.
Under the new policy, DHS will conduct asylum interviews while immigrants are in CBP custody and expand access to legal services to migrants who are seeking asylum. In addition, officers will conduct credible fear screening interviews within 72 hours. Credible fear interviews are usually conducted after migrants leave CBP custody, but the new policy will expedite that process and allow the Biden administration to deport migrants more quickly.
