As the sixth signatory to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP-11) Agreement, Australia has secured a streamlined immigration process for Australian businesses seeking to hire foreign nationals from Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and Singapore, the current signatories to the TPP-11 Agreement. The Agreement will become effective on December 30, 2018, allowing work permit applications filed for foreign nationals holding valid passports for any of the signatory countries to be exempt from Labor Market Testing (LMT). The exemption will allow Australian companies to avoid LMT, a cumbersome process that requires 4 weeks of job posting, conducted no earlier than 4 months prior to application submission.
