On June 24, 2025, the Fair Work Commission published its annual update of the high-income threshold. The FWHIT is now set at AUD 183,100 (up from AUD 175,000) until June 30, 2026.
Applicants for permanent residence under the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS / subclass 186) who are aged over 45 years must qualify for an age exemption. Under the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream of the ENS, one way to qualify for the age exemption is to have:
- Held a subclass 457 or 482 visa
- Worked in eligible sponsored employment for at least two years during the three years ending immediately before application
- Earned at least the FWHIT for each year of that period.
