From February 13, some 19,000 refugees in Australia will be able to apply to transition to a permanent Resolution of Status (RoS) visa. The change allows refugees who came to Australia before Operation Sovereign Borders (2013) who hold Temporary Protection Visas or Safe Haven Enterprise Visas to stay permanently.
- Individuals with a new visa will have the same rights and benefits as all other permanent residents.
- If they meet certain citizenship requirements, they can apply for citizenship and sponsor other family members to come to Australia.
