Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a trial at-home quarantine program for fully vaccinated international travelers to Sydney. The trial measure is in preparation for the forthcoming reopening of Australia’s borders to the international community.
Like other countries in the region, Australia is shifting its COVID-19 response. According to Morrison, the trial “could set the standard for the next phases of the way we live with COVID-19.”
Key Highlights of the Pilot Program:
- The program will select 175 people to participate in the at-home quarantine for 7 days, instead of the typical 14 days.
- Participants must be fully vaccinated with a TGA-accredited vaccine.
- It will be operated by NSW Health and NSW Police, will trial a seven-day home quarantine program for around 175 people.
- NSW will utilize a mobile phone app that uses geolocation and face recognition technology to monitor isolation compliance.
- The pilot will run later in September and last for four weeks.
The approved reopening plan hinges on achieving 70-80% of adults vaccinated.
