The Dispatch: Special Edition, Government Shutdown

Update on the Potential Government Shutdown. Today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced a short-term spending bill designed to fund the government through February 8, 2019. The proposed bill, if made law, will avert a shutdown that would otherwise potentially go into effect at midnight on December 21, 2018.

This bill was proposed after the President signaled a willingness to step back a demand that funding for a proposed border wall be included in any spending measure. The spending bill must now be passed by the Senate and House before reaching President Trump for signature.

*Notably, both USCIS and the Department of Labor will continue operations even if a shutdown is not averted before December 21, 2018. The Department of Labor was previously approved for funding through September 2019 and EIG will continue to submit LCA and PERM applications even in the event of a shutdown.
