Some Middle East Countries Extend Visa Validity as Conflict Continues

As the conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States continues, air travel has been restricted, and regional safety has been affected. As a result, Middle Eastern countries are issuing visa validity extensions and other exceptions.

  • The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: The measures apply to holders of all visit visas, including Umrah, transit, and final exit visas, who were unable to leave the Kingdom due to prevailing circumstances. Under the new directives, expired visas may be extended upon request by the visitor’s host until April 18, 2026, after payment of applicable fees through the Absher platform. Affected visa holders may depart the Kingdom directly through international exit points without needing to extend their visas or pay any fees or penalties.
  • Kuwait: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced an automatic extension of visit visas for one month, granting an additional three-month absence permit for residents currently outside the country. The extension will be applied automatically, without the need to visit residency affairs departments. Residents who are currently outside the country and have exceeded the permitted absence period and are unable to return to the State of Kuwait will be granted a three-month absence permit automatically, without the need for (in-person processing), and with exemption from the prescribed fees, it is noted.
  • Qatar: The Ministry of Interior in Qatar has extended all categories of entry visas that have expired or are nearing expiration for one month, effective from Saturday, February 28, 2026, with the possibility of further extensions depending on developments. The extension will be processed automatically through approved electronic systems, exempt from fees, and no visits or additional applications are required.
  • United Arab Emirates: Residents currently outside the UAE whose residency permits have expired will be allowed to return to the country under a new temporary decision announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security. The measure is aimed at helping residents who were unable to travel back due to widespread airspace closures and disruptions in global aviation. The decision applies to residents who were outside the UAE and whose residency permits expired on or after February 28, 2026, while they were abroad. During this time, affected residents will be permitted to enter the UAE and regularize their legal status without facing financial penalties related to the expiration of their residency permits.
