Hong Kong Eases Eligibility and Streamlines Enrollment for e‑Channel Clearance for Frequent Visitors

The Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) has announced updates to the e‑Channel self‑service immigration clearance program aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing convenience for frequent visitors. Beginning February 27, 2026, eligibility criteria will be relaxed and enrollment procedures simplified.

Expanded Eligibility for Frequent Visitors

Under the updated policy, frequent visitors who:

  • Hold valid travel documents and, where required, multiple‑visit visas, and
  • Have entered Hong Kong through Hong Kong International Airport at least twice in the past 24 months,

may now enroll in the e‑Channel program free of charge, provided they meet all other requirements.

Once enrolled, visitors may use automated clearance lanes at all Hong Kong control points, allowing faster and more convenient border processing.

Simplified Enrollment Procedures

For visitors with electronic travel documents, the enrollment process has been substantially streamlined. At designated enrollment offices, applicants need only:

  1. Present the valid travel document used for entry
  2. Have their photograph taken
  3. Sign a consent form

Fingerprint collection is no longer required for electronic document holders.
Procedures for visitors using non‑electronic travel documents remain unchanged and continue to require fingerprint collection.

Using the e‑Channel

Arrival Clearance

  • Place the travel document on the e‑Channel document reader
    • Electronic travel document holders: use facial recognition
    • Non‑electronic document holders: verify identity via fingerprint scan
  • A landing slip will be issued upon successful arrival clearance

Departure Clearance

The process mirrors arrival clearance, except that no landing slip is issued on exit.
