The Trump administration has increased workplace immigration raids across the country, primarily targeting the agriculture industry. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has also begun investigating companies suspected of employing undocumented immigrants.
Many industries that rely on immigrant labor have expressed their frustration with the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, warning they are losing workers they cannot replace.
What They’re Saying
- President Trump posted on Truth Social on June 12, saying he plans to make changes to his administration’s deportation agenda and will not target migrant farmers, hotel workers, and workers in other related industries.
- However, Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said in a recent interview that the administration plans to “massively expand” workplace immigration enforcement, and officials said there will be “no change” in the current approach to immigrant deportations.
- By June 16, the Department of Homeland Security told staff that it was reversing guidance issued the previous week that agents were not to conduct immigration raids at farms, hotels and restaurants.
