Immigration Nerds Talk About Medical Care at Detention Centers During the COVID-19 Pandemic

In late March, Pike County Detention Center detainee Aldo Camacho-Lopez began feeling sick and displayed fever-like symptoms. However, he did not receive any medical care. On April 2, he tested positive for COVID-19. Three days later, after contracting pneumonia, he received treatment at a hospital.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, more stories about the lack of appropriate and swift care at detention centers are coming out. In this week’s Immigration Nerds podcast, Aldo’s attorney, Christopher Casazza, tells the story of one of those cases and brings better context to what is happening on a national level.
