Upcoming Changes to Processing of H and L Visa Applications in China

Effective March 1, 2019, the U.S. Consulates in the Chinese cities Chengdu and Shengyang will no longer accept H or L visa interviews. The U.S. Department of State announced that it will be reducing the number of interviewing posts from five to three. From this date forward, H and L visa interviews will only be conducted at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, and the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. Applicants previously expecting to apply for H or L visas in Chengdu or Shengyang should establish alternate plans to apply at one of the three remaining interview locations. The reduction in interview posts may cause an increase in processing times for H and L applicants due to the increased volume of cases at the three remaining locations. Estimated visa appointment wait times arepublished on the U.S. Department of State website for reference.
