United Kingdom | Migration Advisory Committee Recommends Broadening Shortage

UK’s Migrant Advisory Committee (MAC) has reviewed the Shortage Occupation List and has recommended broadening the list to include roles related to Software Development, Programmers, Web Designers, Veterinarians, Health Workers, and Architects, among others. Foreign nationals in recognized shortage occupations can enter the UK more quickly compared to the Tier 2 (General) work permit. The government will consider the recommendations in the MAC review and respond in due course. The MAC notes that its recommendations are only applicable under the current immigration system, while EU free movement remains.  If the Home Office takes the MAC’s suggestions into consideration, clients can anticipate a faster and less costly work permit option for a wider range of job positions in the UK.
