The UK’s Foreign Office has recommended that British citizens living in the EU switch from their UK driver’s license to a local EU one before the Brexit deadline. Currently, Brits may easily exchange their driver’s license for an EU one. However, if no agreement is reached, UK citizens in the EU may have to re-apply for a local driver’s license which may include completing a driving test and various expenses. British citizens who exchange their licenses but want to return to the UK to visit may drive with the new license for up to 12 months and will be allowed to swap back if they decide to move back to the UK.
