March 27, 2018

In response to ongoing efforts to protect the social rights of EU workers, the European Commission has accepted the proposal for a European Labor Authority, whose goals are threefold: (1) to inform citizens and businesses of employment opportunities and to provide guidance on employment and residency rights in Member States; (2) to support cooperation between national authorities in cross-border situations, such as ensuring that EU rules protect and regulate cross-border mobility are comprehensive and sustainable; and (3) to mediate and facilitate solutions in cases of cross-border disputes. Following last week’s European Council in Brussels, EU leaders confirmed their support for this program, which will now undergo review by the European Counsel to discuss plans for implementation by 2019.
