South Korea Relaxes Visa Rules for Foreign Workers in Parts, Materials, and Equipment Industries

South Korea has revised its E-7 visa policy regarding foreign nationals in the parts, materials, and equipment industries. Applicants will be able to apply online rather than having to apply at an overseas consulate. This will cut down visa processing times from an estimated one month to one week. The revisions are part of South Korea’s efforts to remain competitive in industries hurt by South Korea’s trade war with Japan.

The E-7 visas are typically reserved for “foreign nationals of special ability…with professional knowledge or technology in accordance with a contract with a public or private institution.” The new policy took effect on November 18.
