DACA Termination Review Declined by the Supreme Court

On January 22, the United States Supreme Court declined to address the Trump Administration’s request to review the lawsuit challenging the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The Trump Administration announced an end to the program in the fall of 2017, which was challenged across the United States in federal district court. Thus far, United States District Courts in New York, California and the District of Columbia have ruled that the Administration’s summary termination of the program is not rooted in satisfactory legal reasoning and is therefore not within the prerogatives of the President in the way it has been ended. With the high court’s denial, challenges are being reviewed in United States Courts of Appeals; it is likely the Court will not hear this matter until the 2020 term.
