Applicants Experience Longer Wait Times for N-400 Applications

With over 708,000 pending naturalization applications on file as of June 30, 2017, wait times for naturalization have stretched from the previous processing time of five to seven months to roughly ten months. This is in part due to higher demand; USCIS received over 50,000 more naturalization applications in the first three quarters of the fiscal year 2017 than in the same period the prior year. Processing times have also increased due to the administration’s increased emphasis on security screenings. USCIS intends to allocate additional resources to decrease the backlog.
