President Biden Revokes Trump’s “Suspension of Entry of Immigrants” Proclamation

On Wednesday, President Biden revoked former President Donald Trump’s Proclamation 10014, Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Present a Risk to the United States Labor Market During the Economic Recovery Following the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Outbreak, as well as the two extensions which followed, section 1 of Proclamation 10052 (June 22, 2020) and section 1 of Proclamation 10131 (December 31, 2020).

President Biden’s proclamation asserts that his predecessor’s proclamations harmed the interests of the United States by:

  • limiting companies from being able to recruit talent from around the world;
  • harming individuals who have received immigrant visas through the FY20 Diversity Visa Lottery but were not able to enter the country and possibly forfeit their opportunity; and
  • keeping family members of US citizens and permanent residents from joining their families in the US.

The Secretary of State, the Secretary of Labor, and the Secretary of Homeland Security will review and provide revisions and guidance as needed to reflect Biden’s proclamation.
